CCALT is designed for colleges, universities and high schools in the U.S. with programs for teaching Chinese as a second language. It is a computer-mediated test, generating data for easy identification of a student's language proficiency level. It is used as a language placement test in some universities and is used more generally as a tool for measuring a student's progress in Chinese over a period of a semester or longer. Analyses of a student's progress over time can be helpful for the design and revision of language curriculum.
